3 Facial Surgery Procedures to Reduce the Signs of Aging

Last updated 3 hours 22 minutes ago

While Botox injections and dermal fillers can help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, many people prefer a more permanent approach to facial rejuvenation. Fortunately, your cosmetic surgeon can help you fight the signs of aging with a number of cosmetic surgery procedures. Boost your knowledge with this overview of three facial surgeries that will reduce the signs of aging.

    Facelift:

One of the most popular procedures designed to eliminate the signs of aging in the face and neck is the facelift. Also known as a rhytidectomy, a facelift can be performed to reduce or eliminate:

    • Creases that extend from the nose to the corner of the mouth, also known as nasal labial lines.
    • Mid-facial sagging.
    • Loss of muscle tone or excess fat deposits under the chin that create jowls.
    • Fallen or displaced fat.

    Eyelid Surgery:

Blepharoplasty is another common procedure designed to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and the other signs of aging. Also known as eyelid surgery, a blepharoplasty can be performed to correct problems with the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Individuals commonly undergo eyelid surgery to eliminate:

    • Fatty deposits in the upper lids that create puffiness.
    • Loose or sagging upper eyelid skin that impairs vision or disturbs the natural folds of the eye.
    • Excess skin and bags beneath the eyelid.
    • Droopiness of the lower lids that exposes the white portion of the eye below the iris.

    Brow Lift:

Brow lifts, or forehead lifts, are another popular facial procedure that can minimize creases that develop across the forehead or on bridge of the nose. In addition, a forehead lift can reposition low or sagging brows for more youthful facial contours.

Just because you’re starting to show signs of aging doesn’t mean you have to live with them. Learn more about your cosmetic surgery options by contacting Dr. David Abramson at (917) 720-4806.

    Rhinoplasty: Open vs. Closed Procedures

    Last updated 6 days ago

A rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to improve the appearance and proportion of the nose in order to achieve facial balance and symmetry. Rhinoplasty can provide a number of benefits, including changing the size of the nose in relation to other facial structures, changing the width at the bridge, correcting large or bulbous nasal tips, and removing visible humps along the nose profile. Read the following overview on how rhinoplasty procedures are performed to learn more.

    Open (External) Rhinoplasty:

After administering intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, your cosmetic surgeon will make an incision on your nose. For an open rhinoplasty procedure, the incisions are made across the columella, or the narrow strip of tissue that separates your nostrils.

Once the incision has been made, your plastic surgeon will gently raise the tissues in order to access and reshape the internal structures of the nose. This will allow your surgeon to alter the shape of your nose and correct any congenital abnormalities or deviations. Any new contours that are created are typically made from cartilage that has been grafted from other areas of your body. Once the structure of your nose has been re-contoured to the desired shape, the skin is re-draped and the incisions are closed.

The incision method chosen for your rhinoplasty procedure will vary based on the level of correction needed, but many surgeons recommend open rhinoplasty as it allows for greater accuracy.

    Closed (Endonasal) Rhinoplasty:

Closed and open rhinoplasty procedures are fairly similar in the ways in which the surgeon achieves the final result, but their approaches vary. Comparatively, during a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made within the nostrils themselves so that there is no visible scarring. The entire operation is performed through these narrow surgical openings with limited visibility. Because of the relative lack of surgical access, repositioning the nasal skin and cartilage requires delicate work.

The best way to determine which type of rhinoplasty is right for you is to schedule a consultation with your plastic surgeon. Dr. David Abramson will help you determine your candidacy and treatment options. Contact us at (917) 720-4806 or visit our website for a listing of our locations.
